Reading one of his books now. Brilliant.
People in Islam
Week 9-7: Tariq Ramadan; French Spokesperson.
Among the many intellectuals that I’ve personally found the time to write about, failing to add Tariq Ramadan to that list would have been awfully pathetic. Along with Hamza Yusuf and Hassanain RajabAli, Tariq Ramadan is viewed by hundreds of thousands of Muslims across the globe as a liberal, spiritually uplifting Muslim.
What isn’t there to say about Tariq Ramadan? He’s done almost everything. He lectures at different universities and World Conference Halls on politics, religion, and reform for not only the Muslim world, but the secular world as well. He’s written several different pieces - including my favorite, What I Believe - and continues to publish a few articles. Better yet, he’s a professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies in Oxford University (yeah boy!). Also, he holds an MA in Philosophy and French Literature and PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Geneva.
On a personal note, this individual is such an inspiration for me in that we are finally beginning to produce fascinating and brilliant people who are not only uplifting the state of the Ummah because of their achievements, but wave the banner of Islam correctly. I applaud Tariq Ramadan for that. To visit his own website, click here. To visit the tumblr blog dedicated to his work, click here. For a brilliant video on him speaking in terms of Rethinking Islamic Reform Conference (which is two hours, but hella worth it), clicky here.
